BULGARIAN ROOTS

Program Schedule:

Day 1. Meeting at the Sofia airport. Transfer to the hotel in Sofia. Dinner at Vodenitsata restaurant with a folklore show and fire dancers. Overnight.

Day 2. Breakfast. Departure to the small museum -town of Koprivshtitsa. City tour along the narrow cobbled streets, arch-like bridges, high-stone walls with big gates leading to picturesque houses. Dinner in a Bulgarian mehana and overnight.

Day 3. Breakfast. In the morning – time at leisure for a walk. Departure to the town of Kazanlak, arrival at about 13.00. Visit the unique Thracian comb, dating from the IV century B.C. It is under UNESCO protection and is famous for its unique well-preserved murals. Visit of the Ethnographic museum with typical for the town of Kazanlak crafts. Visit of the Koulenska church. Overnight.

Day 4. Breakfast. Visit of the Historical Museum of Kazanlak, where you can see the latest findings from the Thracian rulers. Visit of the Thracian comb of SEVT III. Departure to the town of Shipka and visit of the Church with golden cupola. Departure to Gabrovo via the Shipka pass. Sightseeing of the Etara architectural and ethnographic complex. Dinner in a Bulgarian restaurant. Overnight in Etara.

Day 5. Breakfast. Depart to Veliko Turnovo. On the way – visit the Arbanasi village – an architectural reserve. In the afternoon – sightseeing tour of the town of Veliko Turnovo and visit the Tsarevets Hill with ruins form the Tsar’s Palace and the medieval fortress. Continue to Troyan – the town of craftsmen. Overnight in Troyan.

Day 6. Breakfast. Visit the Troyan Craft’s museum and the Oreshaka village, situated nearby, with its permanent exhibition of arts and crafts. In the afternoon – visit of the Troyan Monastery – the third largest in Bulgaria, founded in the 14th century. Continue to Sofia. Accommodation at the hotel. Overnight.

Day 7. Breakfast. Sightseeing tour of Sofia – the capital of Bulgaria, including the ruins of Serdica, St George rotunda (4th century), St. Sofia Church (6th century), St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral (1912), National Theatre, National Ethnographic Museum, etc. In the afternoon – time at leisure. Transfer to Sofia airport. Departure from Bulgaria.
